Froth Tech Tap Takeover | Road to Beervana

Not a Valley Brewer event, but one with a strong local connection. Froth Technologies grow their yeast in Avalon, a few minutes up the valley from us, and they’re handing a full tap list to Monkfish on Vivian Street for an evening built entirely around what yeast does to beer.

The format is the useful part. Beers from craft breweries all around Aotearoa, pouring in one small room, each showcasing a different Froth Tech strain. Tasting strain character side by side is close to impossible at home, where one fermenter means one strain per batch and weeks between comparisons. Here it’s a dozen reference points in an evening.

In Froth Tech’s words

Monkfish and Froth Technologies are teaming up for an evening celebrating great beer, great brewing, and the tiny organisms doing all the heavy lifting. Yeast!

We’ll be pouring a full line-up of beers from craft breweries around Aotearoa, showcasing a wide range of different Froth Tech yeast strains. It’s a chance to taste how different yeasts shape flavour, aroma, character, and texture across a range of beer styles, all in one place. Stay tuned for the line-up drop!

The details

  • Date: Thursday 20 August 2026
  • Time: 5:30pm to 9pm
  • Where: Monkfish Bottleshop & Bar, 124 Vivian Street, Te Aro
  • Line-up: announced closer to the date

Ryan and Simon, who started Froth Tech in 2018 and now supply breweries the length of the country, will both be there. If you’ve been meaning to ask someone about pitch rates, repitching from a healthy crop, or why your last batch finished higher than the numbers said it should, this is the room for it.

It’s an official Road to Beervana event, the week of craft beer happenings that runs from the Friday before Beervana through to the Sunday after. Monkfish is one of the smallest beer bars in the country, fifteen seats, so turning up early is the play.
