Superdelic™ is a strikingly expressive aroma hop developed by NZ Hops Ltd through their Bract Brewing Programme. It was officially released in 2023 and is the result of years of selective breeding focused on delivering bold, fruit-forward flavours that are uniquely New Zealand in origin.
Superdelic™ is typically harvested between late February and early April as part of the Southern Hemisphere hop season. It is classified as an aroma hop, though it offers moderate alpha acid levels—generally in the 6.3% to 7.5% range—allowing it to contribute mild, smooth bitterness when used early in the boil.
Where Superdelic™ truly shines is in whirlpool and dry hop applications. Its aroma profile bursts with bright, playful fruit characteristics including red berries, tropical fruit, candy-like notes, and citrus. Brewers often describe intense impressions of raspberry, mango, fruit punch, and even hints of bubblegum or grape. These vibrant flavours are balanced by soft herbal undertones that provide depth without overpowering the fruit-forward identity.
Superdelic™ is particularly well-suited to hop-forward styles like Hazy IPAs, Pale Ales, and creative modern lagers or fruit-forward saisons. Its layered and unusual aroma palette encourages experimentation in both single-hop and blend-focused recipes.
With its high oil content and distinctive tropical–berry–candy character, Superdelic™ is quickly gaining recognition among brewers looking to explore expressive new territory in aroma-driven beer design.
Common substitutes are limited due to its unique profile, but Galaxy, Strata, and El Dorado may offer comparable fruit intensity in certain applications.
