Styrian Golding

Styrian Golding—also known as Savinjski Golding or Celeia—is a Slovenian aroma hop that traces its lineage to a clonal selection of the English Fuggle variety. Despite its name, it is not a true Golding but rather a distinct cultivar with unique characteristics.

This hop is celebrated for its mild and refined aroma profile, featuring earthy, floral, and subtly spicy notes. It imparts a delicate bitterness, making it well-suited for late boil additions and dry hopping, where its nuanced flavors can shine without overwhelming the brew.

With an alpha acid content ranging from 2.8% to 6.0%, Styrian Golding contributes a gentle bitterness, while its total oil content of 0.5 to 1.0 mL/100g ensures a pleasant aromatic presence. The oil composition includes myrcene (27–33%), humulene (34–38%), and caryophyllene (9–11%), contributing to its characteristic profile.

Brewers often employ Styrian Golding in styles such as Extra Special Bitter (ESB), English Ale, Belgian Ale, and Lager, where its subtle complexity enhances the overall flavor without dominating. It serves as an excellent substitute for other noble hops like Hallertauer Tradition or Spalter Select.
